MAYHEM INC. -- 2008 March 15 - April 15

Writing Fighting

Instructor: Milton G.

Class Description:

Writing Fighting is about what specific elements the writer needs to know to successfully write a good action or fight scene, the basics. Just knowing how to fight or how to handle a gun or knife is only half the task. Knowing how to write quick-paced action is the other half. I would like to start by describing the various weapons and fighting techniques and what problems they may have had in dealing with this type of scene in their fiction.

We'll start with a quick lesson in hand-to-hand fighting. I would couple this with some written examples, and there will be homework. Next, we'll talk about weapons, their use and appropriate place. More commentary on what makes an action scene work, with examples and reference books, for further reading on the subject. Then we'll work on writing chase scenes involving vehicles, planes, and any form of transportation, along with suggested reading.

Anything you'd like to know about writing a thrilling action scene, just ask!
